Delaware DUI Checkpoint and Sober Rides Program Results
Summary
The Delaware Office of Highway Safety reported the results of its St. Patrick's Day weekend DUI checkpoint and Sober Rides Program. The initiative led to 23 DUI arrests and two fatalities over the holiday weekend, with 1,144 individuals utilizing the Sober Rides program.
What changed
The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) has released the results of its St. Patrick's Day weekend enforcement efforts, which included DUI checkpoints and a Sober Rides program. The initiative resulted in 23 arrests for driving under the influence and tragically, two fatalities. The Sober Rides program facilitated 1,144 safe rides home for individuals who might otherwise have driven impaired.
This report serves as an informational update on the effectiveness of OHS's traffic safety initiatives. While no new regulatory requirements are imposed, the data highlights the ongoing efforts by state authorities to curb impaired driving and underscores the importance of utilizing designated driver services or ride-sharing options during high-risk periods. Compliance officers should note the continued focus on DUI enforcement by state agencies.
