What changed

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a patent, US12582495B2, for a novel cover designed for occlusal force meters. The patent, granted to MURATA MANUFACTURING CO., LTD., specifies a bag-shaped cover main body with a larger Young's modulus than an attached elastic body, which has a rubber hardness of E15 or less. This grant represents a new intellectual property right for a specific medical device component.

This patent grant does not impose new regulatory obligations on entities outside of those directly involved in manufacturing or utilizing this specific occlusal force meter cover. However, it establishes exclusive rights for the assignee, potentially impacting market entry or licensing for competitors in the dental and medical device manufacturing sectors. Compliance officers should note this as a new IP asset in the medical device space.
