Illegal Animal Medicines Seizures, Improvement Notices and Prosecutions
Summary
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) publishes a rolling 12-month listing of enforcement actions under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013 (VMR), including seizure notices, improvement notices, and prosecutions involving illegal animal medicines. The listing covers activities from August 2024 through April 2026, with updates added as enforcement actions occur. The VMD exercises powers of entry and inspector powers under the VMR to address non-compliance with animal medicine regulations.
What changed
The VMD has published a consolidated listing page of enforcement actions relating to illegal animal medicines under the VMR. The page compiles seizure notices, improvement notices, and prosecution outcomes from August 2024 to April 2026 as a rolling 12-month record.
Manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers of animal medicines should monitor this listing to understand enforcement patterns and ensure compliance with the VMR. Parties involved in the supply chain of veterinary medicines should review the linked enforcement policy and guidance documents to understand permitted activities under GB law.

The Enforcement policy for animal medicines sets out the general principles and approach that the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) will take to enforce the Veterinary Medicines Regulations (VMR). The policy explains how and when enforcement notices or other action may be taken.
The Secretary of State owns the powers provided by the VMR, which include powers of entry and powers of an inspector.
