What changed

This document is a USPTO patent application (US20260083598A1) for a novel absorbent article design. The invention focuses on increasing the stiffness of the article, particularly within the active regions of elasticated containment flaps, while maintaining flexibility in inactive regions. This is achieved through specific material and structural arrangements within the bodyside liner, outer cover, and absorbent system, with flexibility measured by a defined Probe Flexibility Test Method.

As this is a patent application, it does not impose immediate regulatory obligations. However, it signals potential future product innovations and manufacturing considerations in the absorbent article industry. Companies involved in the design, manufacturing, or sale of absorbent products should be aware of this patent filing as it may impact future product development and intellectual property landscapes.

Abstract

The present disclosure is directed toward absorbent articles having increased stiffness. In particular, an absorbent article has a body side liner, an outer cover, and an absorbent system comprising a fluid acquisition layer disposed between the bodyside liner and the outer cover. The article further comprises elasticated containment flaps having an active region and one or more inactive regions. The article has an article flexibility of less than or equal to 35 gf at a first location of the article located within the containment flap first inactive regions, and wherein the absorbent article has an article flexibility of greater than or equal to 40 gf at a second location of the article located within the containment flap active region, the article flexibility determined according to the Probe Flexibility Test Method described herein.
