Governor Moore Announces $5.2 Million in EARN Maryland Grants to Help More than 2,000 Marylanders Train for In-Demand Careers

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today announced more than $5.2 million in awards through the Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) Maryland program —an investment that will connect Marylanders to high-demand careers, help businesses find skilled talent, and fuel continued economic growth across the state.
The grant awards will enable more than 2,000 Marylanders to access training and attain credentials, and help connect nearly 1,000 Marylanders to jobs in key industries such as tech and healthcare. Additionally, more than 1,100 incumbent workers will receive upskilling opportunities, allowing workers to advance their careers while helping employers retain and grow their workforce.
“Maryland’s competitive edge is dependent on how we prepare our people,” said Gov. Moore. “By connecting thousands of Marylanders with high-quality training and career pathways in high-growth sectors, we are strategically preparing our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow and actively fueling economic growth across our state.”
The investments announced today will support training in high-growth sectors, including $1.9 million targeting healthcare and $1.1 million for information technology. Through industry-led partnerships, EARN Maryland connects employers with education and training providers to deliver targeted, job-driven programs, ensuring Marylanders gain skills that employers are actively seeking.
“EARN Maryland is creating real opportunities for Marylanders to access good-paying, in-demand careers while helping businesses grow and compete,” said Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu. “Workforce training and industry partnerships drive economic growth for our state and build financial security for Maryland families.”
The nationally-recognized EARN Maryland program continues to deliver strong results, generating an estimated $19 in economic impact for every $1 invested. Under the Moore-Miller Administration, nearly 6,000 Marylanders have accessed training and more than 4,000 have been placed into jobs through an investment of $35 million in EARN Maryland programs.
The Fiscal Year 2027 budget signed by Governor Moore this month maintains $15.3 million in annual funding for the program, which received a $5 million expansion in Fiscal Year 2026.
The organizations receiving awards in this round of EARN funding include community colleges, local workforce development boards, and nonprofit organizations. They will partner with hundreds of employers across Maryland to deliver industry-driven training programs aligned with local workforce needs.
