EU and Member States Pledge €812 Million for Sudan Crisis Response

The EU and Member States pledged €812.14 million in humanitarian aid for Sudan at the Third International Sudan Conference in Berlin on April 14, 2026. The European Commission's contribution is €360.8 million, with €215.5 million supporting people inside Sudan and €145.3 million addressing the regional refugee crisis in Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Uganda, Egypt, and Libya.

EU, WHO, UNICEF Joint Statement Celebrating Vaccination Progress During European Immunisation Week 2026

The European Commission, WHO Regional Office for Europe, and UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia issued a joint statement on 19 April 2026 celebrating the 20th European Immunisation Week. The statement highlights that vaccination has saved an estimated 154 million lives globally since 1974. In the European Region, high vaccination coverage has maintained polio-free status since 2002, nearly eliminated measles and rubella, and reduced rubella cases by over 99% and mumps by 95% from 2000 to 2024. The statement also notes concerning increases in pertussis (298,000+ cases in 2024, highest ever) and measles (127,000+ cases, highest in 27 years), calling for reinforced national and regional immunisation programmes.

The European Commission issued a daily press release covering five separate actions: (1) the EU and Bangladesh initialed a 82-article Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), the first modern PCA with a South Asian country, pending formal signature and ratification; (2) the Commission proposed full resumption of the EU-Syria Cooperation Agreement (suspended since 2011), ahead of an 11 May 2026 High Level Political Dialogue; (3) a €2.25 million call for proposals was launched under the tenth edition of the 'Cypriot Civil Society in Action' programme, with a 16 June 2026 deadline; (4) the Commission approved Croatia's €411 million capital injection into development bank HBOR under EU State aid rules, funded via the Recovery and Resilience Facility; and (5) the Commission approved the acquisition of Maple (India) by Macquarie Group (Australia) and La Caisse (Canada) under the EU Merger Regulation.
