What changed
The Office for Students has issued The Power to Award Degrees etc. (Spurgeon's College) (Revocation) Order 2026 (SI 2026/394), effective 27th April 2026. This Order revokes two prior instruments: The Power to Award Degrees etc. (Spurgeon's College) Order 2022 and The Power to Award Degrees etc. (Spurgeon's College) (Amendment) Order 2025. The college's authority to award degrees is removed as it has ceased to be a registered higher education provider.
Affected parties include current students who may have expected to receive degrees from Spurgeon's College, as well as the college itself which must immediately cease all degree-awarding activities. Students should contact the Office for Students or alternative higher education providers to understand their options for completing their qualifications. The college cannot confer any degrees after 27th April 2026.
What to do next
- Confirm current students will receive degrees through alternative arrangements
- Cease all degree-awarding activities and communications from 27th April 2026
- Contact the Office for Students for guidance on pending degree conferrals
