Just one month remains for organisations to apply for the Social Investment Fund's (SIF) Major Grants Programme, which supports charities and non-profit organisations (NPOs) working to benefit Bailiwick residents.

Since the Major Grants Programme launched in 2021, SIF has awarded more than £6 million through 75 major grants to local organisations, including over £1 million in 2025 alone.

SIF's Major Grants Programme is designed to support the financial sustainability of the Bailiwick's charitable sector. In 2026, SIF is running one round of major grants, with £1.34 million available for distribution. Considering all applications together in a single round will enable SIF to direct funding towards the activities and organisations most needed across the community.

The programme is open to registered charities and NPOs operating in, or for the benefit of, the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Applications should focus on people in our community, the services and support they need, or wider activity that benefits the Bailiwick.

Organisations are invited to apply for grants of more than £15,000 and will need to demonstrate clear, measurable impact. Funding may be used towards running costs and salaries, capital costs and multi-year projects. Applications can relate to costs needed this year or for services, projects or activities planned from 2027 onwards, reflecting SIF's commitment to supporting longer-term strategic planning within the sector.

Applications must support at least one of the following outcomes:

  • Improving the lives of people with specific needs, disadvantages or vulnerabilities
  • Employment, education or training opportunities
  • The protection of our natural environment, culture and heritage
  • Improved health and wellbeing for our community
  • An inclusive community, which challenges the barriers causing disadvantage or discrimination Organisations interested in applying for a Major Grant must first meet with SIF to discuss their funding needs, the value of their work to the community, and the impact they are looking to achieve.

Recent Major Grant recipients include Guernsey Chest & Heart LBG, which was awarded £150,000 towards 3 years of core running costs; St Anne's Pre-School Playgroup in Alderney, which received £16,038 towards the first phase of its development project, to enable the organisation to extend its service to include care for babies; and Independence, which was awarded £46,524 towards the costs and continued professional development of providing a service for at risk and problem gamblers, their families and affected others for a period of 3 years.

Steve Sharman, Chair of the Social Investment Fund, said:

"SIF is pleased to be able to support the charity sector through the Major Grants Programme in 2026.  With £1.34 million available, we welcome applications from charities and NPOs of all sizes and from across the Bailiwick. By considering applications together in one round this year, we aim to ensure our funding is directed where it can make the greatest difference to the community."

Organisations can review full information about the Major Grants Programme and how to apply, including previous recipients at: Major Grants Programme | SIF - Social Investment Fund

Complete applications must be received by 12pm on Friday 15 th May.
