Summary

PTIN User Fee Hearing Cancellation, $11 to $1

What changed

The IRS published a notice cancelling a public hearing originally scheduled for April 24, 2026 regarding proposed amendments to reduce PTIN user fees from $11 to $10. The hearing, announced in a March 26, 2026 Federal Register notice, required interested parties to submit testimony requests and topic outlines by April 2, 2026. Since no requests or outlines were received, the hearing is cancelled. Tax return preparers should monitor Regulations.gov docket REG-108673-25 for further developments on the proposed fee reduction under 26 CFR part 300.

This cancellation does not affect the underlying proposed rulemaking on PTIN user fees. Preparers and tax professionals should continue to monitor for final action on the proposed fee change, which may proceed without a public hearing or be subject to further revision based on written comments.
