FRC Provides Free Parenting Programmes Across the Cayman Islands
16 April 2026 | Press Release | By: MHES Communications
The Family Resource Centre (FRC), a unit of the Department of Counselling Services, is pleased to announce a series of free parenting programmes and workshops for families across Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, taking place from 22 April until 25 June 2026.
Delivered by highly-trained parenting practitioners, these virtual and in-person programmes are designed to support families experiencing a range of challenges, from mild to complex dysfunction.
Mr. Rayle Roberts, Director for the Department of Counselling Services, commented: “What we see everyday in our work is that when families are supported early, the trajectory for children and young people can change significantly. These programmes are about strengthening protective factors and building a more resilient society over time. Investing in parents in this way is one of the most effective approaches to creating lasting and positive change across our communities.”
As part of its programme line-up, the FRC is offering the internationally recognised Triple P – Positive Parenting Programme. Backed by more than 35 years of ongoing research, Triple P provides parents with simple and practical strategies to build strong, healthy relationships, confidently manage their children’s behaviour and prevent problems developing. The Programme is used in more than 30 countries and has proven to work across cultures, socio-economic groups, and diverse family structures.
“We are aiming to target support towards parents who are divorced or going through separation, parents seeking self-control and problem-solving skills, and parents who are seeking to improve their relationship with their teenagers,” said the Family Resource Centre Clinical Supervisor, Ms. Charmaine Miller. “Our approach is simple, meeting the families where they are and adding tools to their toolbox in order to parent confidently. We believe parents are the agents of change and are the expert in their homes. It is our role to coach them with knowledge and skills to raise confident and resilient children and foster healthy relationships.”
Parenting prorgrammes are delivered in a supportive group setting, with barriers to participation removed through the provision of free dinners and childcare, which encourages strong engagement and high commitment to programmes.
“Research speaks to the effectiveness of group programmes because participants are able to share similar experiences, acquire practical skills and gain reliable and effective educational information to support their parenting journey. As an agency, we pride ourselves in facilitating effective groups that create a safe and confidential space for all clients,” added Ms. Amber Caum, Acting Programme Coordinator for the Family Resource Centre.
Recognising the demands of family life, the FRC is also offering a series of virtual sessions focusing on common parenting challenges, including teenagers and screen time, parenting children with ADHD, and using effective parenting strategies to increase compliance.
