Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) (Singapore Maritime Week 2026 — Exemption) Order 2026
Summary
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore has issued an exemption order under the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949, permitting the display of five foreign national flags at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre exclusively during Singapore Maritime Week 2026 (21–23 April 2026). The exempted flags are those of France, India, Norway, Republic of Korea, and the United States of America. The order was made on 14 April 2026.
What changed
This order creates a narrow, time-limited exemption from section 3 of the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949, permitting the display of five named foreign national flags at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre during the specified three-day window. The exemption is conditional on the flags being displayed in connection with Singapore Maritime Week 2026 only. All other provisions of the Act remain in full force.
Event organizers, venue operators, and participants displaying national flags at Singapore Maritime Week 2026 benefit from this exemption for the specified dates and location. No other flags or locations are covered. Flag displays outside the 21–23 April 2026 window or outside Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre would remain subject to the Act's general prohibition on displaying foreign national emblems.
