The Airport Fire & Rescue Service has announced several promotions within its ranks, recognising the experience, professionalism, and commitment of its personnel.
Firefighter Emerson Rovegno has been promoted to Leading Firefighter. He joined the Fire Service in 2007 and is qualified to Incident Command Level 1. In addition, he holds an Assessor qualification, is a Road Traffic Incident Instructor and oversees the airfield’s water supplies. Leading Firefighter Rovegno has now taken on his new operational duties with White Watch.
Leading Firefighter Mitch Mifsud has been promoted to Sub Officer. Since joining the Fire Service in 2012, he has qualified as an Instructor for Breathing Apparatus, Road Traffic Incidents and Emergency Response Driver Training. He also holds qualifications in Incident Command Level 2, is an Electric Vehicle Incident Responder and is certified in First Response Emergency Care Level 4. Sub Officer Mifsud has already taken up his duties as Operations Commander and 2 I/C (Second-in-Command) on Red Watch.
Sub Officer Daniel Cabezutto has been promoted to Station Officer. Having joined the Fire Service in 2009, he has since achieved qualifications in Incident Command Level 2, as an instructor for Fire Service Physical Training and in Road Traffic Incidents. He is also a certified Hydraulic Cutting Equipment Technician, a Hazardous Materials Incident First Responder and Breathing Apparatus Instructor and Servicer. He recently attended an Aircraft Recovery Management course in the Netherlands, and in his new role Station Officer Cabezutto becomes the Crew Commander on Red Watch.
AFRS Senior Fire Officer Nicky Viñales said, “These promotions reflect our ongoing investment in the continued professional development of our personnel and form part of a structured succession planning process. I am confident that the skills and experience they bring will further strengthen the Service’s operational capability and I wish them every success in their new roles.”
The Hon Leslie Bruzon, Minister with responsibility for the AFRS, added; “These three promotions recognise the professionalism, dedication and leadership being demonstrated at all levels by members of the Airport Fire and Rescue Service. I congratulate the officers, and thank them for their continued commitment to ensuring safety at the airfield and for the benefit of the wider community.”
