The Committee for Employment & Social Security is looking for up to two people to join it as Non-Voting Members.

This is a varied and meaningful role that involves sharing experience, offering insights, and helping to shape the development and implementation of policy. Applicants do not need prior experience in Government on a States Committee; what matters most is an interest in the Committee's work.

Non-Voting Members participate fully in the work of the Committee, but they do not have a vote. Like States Members, Non-Voting Members must act in the best interests of the community, and any potential conflicts of interest will be considered as part of the application process.

The time commitment varies, but generally includes attending half-day Committee meetings every fortnight, preparing for those meetings, and joining occasional additional activities such as presentations or briefings. The anticipated term of office would begin in June 2026 and run until April 2029.

Deputy Tina Bury, President of the Committee for Employment & Social Security, said:

"We believe that Non-Voting Members play an important role in strengthening the work of the Committee. By bringing additional, different perspectives and expertise to the table, they enrich discussions and help ensure decisions are well-informed and reflective of the community's needs. The Committee would welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. There are no specific qualifications required. Experience may come from your professional life, voluntary roles, lived experience, or community involvement. If you care about social justice and feel you have something to contribute to your community, we encourage you to apply.

"We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in human resources, employment relations or employment law, but this is by no means essential."

To request a candidate information pack with further details about the role, the Committee's mandate, the application process and the eligibility criteria, please contact Ellen Pragnell, Committee Secretary, by emailing Ellen.Pragnell@gov.gg or by telephone on 01481 222871.

We are committed to an accessible and supportive recruitment process. Please let us know if you require any adjustments.

The deadline for applications is Friday 1st May 2026.
