What changed

Premier David Burt leads a Bermudian delegation to the 2026 IMF Spring Meetings and World Bank Group in Washington, DC, representing the first time Bermuda has been invited to participate in these meetings. The delegation attended the Caribbean Ministerial Meeting hosted by the IMF's Western Hemisphere Department, which focused on the role of fiscal institutions in reducing public debt and rebuilding buffers across the Caribbean.

This participation reflects Bermuda's growing recognition as a major player in international finance and provides a platform for engagement with international counterparts on fiscal challenges. While the announcement does not create compliance obligations for the private sector, it signals Bermuda's expanded role in international economic discussions that may influence future fiscal policy directions.

Premier Burt to Travel to Washington, DC for IMF Spring Meetings and Congressional Engagements

15 April, 2026

The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, is currently in Washington, DC this week leading a Bermudian delegation at the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

The Spring Meetings bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private-sector executives, and civil society representatives to discuss the state of the global economy and key international issues, including the growth outlook, financial stability, and economic resilience. This is the first time that Bermuda has been invited to participate in these meetings.

The Premier participated in the Caribbean Ministerial Meeting at the IMF today Wednesday, 15 April. This year’s session, hosted by the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department, will focus on “The Role of Fiscal Institutions in Reducing Public Debt and Rebuilding Buffers,” examining policy actions and institutional reforms that can strengthen fiscal frameworks and support durable growth across the Caribbean.

While in Washington, DC, the Premier will also continue the Government of Bermuda’s outreach to key Members of the United States Congress to strengthen the cooperative partnership between the United States and Bermuda.

Premier Burt said, “The IMF Spring Meetings provide an important platform to engage with international counterparts on the fiscal challenges and opportunities we all face. Bermuda's invitation to participate for the first time reflects our growing recognition as a major player in international finance.”

The Premier added, “I also look forward to continuing our engagement with Members of Congress and discussing matters of shared interest to Bermuda and the United States.”
