The Education Office has announced that Mr Anthony Griffin will start as Headteacher of St Anne's School in Alderney from September 2026.

Mr Griffin completed his PGCE in Wales at the University of Aberystwyth. He has worked in a range of roles across different schools, always prioritising pastoral care for his students. His first school was an academy in Cheltenham, UK.

Mr Griffin studied History and English at university and then spent some time teaching abroad in South Korea and Japan. He moved to Jersey in 2018, where he worked as an English teacher before becoming an Assistant Head. While in Jersey, he enjoyed exploring the island and learning about the history of the Channel Islands.

Mr Anthony Griffin said:

"I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve at St Anne's School. I am very excited to get started and to play my part in ensuring the children of Alderney receive the education they deserve. It is a very special school, and I'm delighted to join the community."

Ian Carter, Chair of the Board of St Anne's School, said:

"The Governing Body is delighted at the appointment of Anthony Griffin as the next Headteacher of St Anne's School. Anthony brings a rare blend of strategic clarity, deep pastoral commitment, and a wholehearted belief in the potential of every child on Alderney. His leadership will strengthen the school's ambitions, its community partnerships, and its culture of care. We look forward to working closely with him as St Anne's enters this exciting new chapter."

Nick Hynes, Director of Education, said:

"We are delighted to appoint Anthony as Headteacher of St Anne's School. We look forward to working closely with him from September and are confident that the wealth of leadership and pastoral experience he brings will be of great benefit to learners and staff in the island."
