Summary

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced 27-year and 11-year sentences for Delmetrice Rogers and Lasonya Savage, respectively, following their conviction on felony cocaine trafficking charges. The sentences stem from a 2021 investigation involving surveillance, wiretaps, and search warrants.

What changed

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier's Office of Statewide Prosecution has secured significant sentences in a major drug trafficking case. Delmetrice Rogers received a 27-year sentence, and Lasonya Savage received an 11-year sentence followed by 4 years of probation, after being convicted on multiple counts of felony cocaine trafficking. The convictions are the result of a 2021 investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, involving surveillance, wiretaps, and search warrants, leading to a jury trial and convictions on November 20, 2025.

This enforcement action highlights the consequences of large-scale drug trafficking in Florida and underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation between state and local law enforcement. Regulated entities involved in or potentially impacted by drug-related activities should note the severity of penalties and the thorough investigative methods employed. While no direct compliance actions are required for most entities, this case serves as a reminder of the state's commitment to prosecuting drug offenses and ensuring community safety.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution secured a 27-year sentence for Delmetrice Rogers and an 11-year sentence followed by 4 years of probation for Lasonya Savage following their conviction on multiple counts of felony cocaine trafficking.

“This case is a textbook example of what happens when a street-level dealer isn’t held accountable and escalates into large-scale trafficking,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “That cycle ends in Florida. Thanks to the hard work of Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Guillermo Vallejo and our law enforcement partners, these criminals are off the streets, and our communities are safer.”

“From the first lead to the final sentencing, Florida’s law enforcement partnerships deliver results,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass. “Our agents and our partners put in years of work to ensure these dangerous traffickers are taken off our streets, and today’s outcome reflects that dedication. With the leadership and support of Governor DeSantis and Attorney General Uthmeier, those who traffic dangerous drugs in our state can expect the full weight of the criminal justice system to follow them.”

“This case is a clear example of what can be accomplished when federal, state, and local partners work together toward a common goal,” said Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell. “The coordination between agencies, along with the dedication of all those involved, ensured this investigation was built thoroughly and resulted in convictions that will stand. At the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), we are proud to work alongside some of the best-trained professionals in law enforcement to protect our community.”

Rogers and Savage were caught via surveillance, wiretaps, and search warrant executions during a 2021 Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation. Rogers has prior convictions, including drug sales within 1,000 feet of a school or church.

Rogers and Savage were convicted on November 20, 2025, following a week-long jury trial.

The defendants are charged as follows:

Delmetrice Rogers

  • Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine 200 to 400 grams
  • Trafficking Cocaine 200 to 400 grams
  • Trafficking Cocaine 28 grams to 200 grams – 2 counts
    Lasonya Savage

  • Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine 28 to 200 grams

  • Possession of a Place of Structure for Purpose of Trafficking
Rogers and Savage will serve their respective sentences in the Florida Department of Corrections.
