Attorney General Alan Wilson announces State Grand Jury indictment in Chester County gang shooting

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today the return of a two-count indictment against Kylynn Jackson and Rajai Jones for the murder of Darius Minter in Chester County.

The State Grand Jury issued indictments against Kylynn Jackson and Rajai Jones for the following offenses:

2026-GS-47-14 (Chester County)

Count 1: Criminal Conspiracy, § 16-17-0410 0-5 years and a fine of not more $5000

Count 2: Murder, §16-03-0010, 30 years to life

The indictments allege that Kylynn Jackson and Rajai Jones combined and conspired to murder Darius Minter on the night of July 5, 2022. The shooting of Minter was allegedly the culmination of a series of retaliatory shootings between rival gangs, and Minter was gunned down on his own porch.

Bond was denied for both defendants by the Honorable Heath Taylor in Richland County on March 20, 2026. Rajai Jones is currently in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, serving a sentence for voluntary manslaughter, and was transported to the hearing from prison. Kylynn Jackson is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

“This case represents a significant step in a long and intensive investigation into alleged gang violence in Chester County,” Attorney General Wilson stated. “Gang violence remains a scourge in many South Carolina communities, both large and small.  My Office remains ready, willing, and able to assist those communities in rooting out that violence. This partnership between the South Carolina Attorney General’s State Grand Jury Section, SLED, and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office is yet another example of what interagency cooperation can accomplish in our state.”

Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey stated, “These indictments are another pivotal moment in our ongoing mission to dismantle the cycle of gang violence that has impacted Chester County. This investigation has been long and intensive, but our partnership with SLED and the SC Attorney General’s Office has never wavered in our pursuit of the truth.”

State Grand Jury chief attorney S. Creighton Waters also thanked his staff and the law enforcement partners for all their hard work on the case. “The State Grand Jury continues to make a difference in important cases,” Waters said.

“The State Grand Jury is a critical partnership in the effort to rid communities across South Carolina of violent gang members. SLED Agents worked hand in hand with local law enforcement and prosecutors to hold these gang members accountable,” said SLED Chief Mark Keel.

The case is being investigated by the South Carolina State Grand Jury, which functions in partnership with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the South Carolina Attorney General’s State Grand Jury Section, and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office. The cases will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General John Conrad and Jennifer McKellar, as well as the chief attorney of the State Grand Jury Section, Senior Assistant Deputy Attorney General S. Creighton Waters.

Attorney General Wilson stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
