NSF Request for Comments on Research Performance Progress Report Information Collection
Summary
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is requesting public comment on its submission to OMB for continued clearance of the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) information collection. This collection is estimated to require an average of 6.6 hours per report, with approximately 120,000 reports expected annually.
What changed
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has submitted a request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for clearance to extend the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) information collection for three years. This is the second public comment request, following an initial notice that received no comments. The RPPR serves as a common portal for the research community to submit annual project reports to NSF and partner agencies, replacing previous reporting systems.
Regulated entities, specifically researchers who submit project reports, should be aware that comments on this information collection are due within 30 days of publication. While this is a request for comment and not a new rule, failure to comply with future reporting requirements under a valid OMB control number could impact research funding and compliance. The NSF estimates an annual burden of 30,000 public hours for this collection.
What to do next
- Submit written comments and recommendations regarding the RPPR information collection within 30 days of publication to www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAmain.
- Review the NSF's submission for the RPPR information collection, accessible via www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAmain.
- Ensure compliance with future RPPR submission requirements once OMB clearance is obtained.
