FBI Proposes Rule for Child Protection Act Designated Entities

The Department of Justice, via the FBI, has proposed new regulations to establish criteria for entities designated to conduct national criminal history background checks under the Child Protection Improvements Act of 2018. These checks are for determining an individual's fitness to have responsibility for children, the elderly, or individuals with disabilities. The public comment period closes on September 25, 2023.

FBI Interim Rule on Stolen Firearms Access in NCIC

The FBI has issued an interim final rule allowing licensed firearm importers, manufacturers, and dealers to access NCIC records of stolen firearms. This rule implements provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and is effective July 1, 2024, with a comment period closing July 31, 2024.
