EPA Privacy Act System of Records Rescindment
Summary
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to rescind a system of records notice (EPA-53) for the Integrated Grants Management System (IGMS)/Next Generation Grants System (NGGS). This action is being taken because the system is no longer maintained or used in a manner that retrieves records by personal identifiers, as defined by the Privacy Act of 1974. The EPA stopped maintaining this system in July 2024.
What changed
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a notice proposing the rescission of a system of records notice (EPA-53) related to the Integrated Grants Management System (IGMS)/Next Generation Grants System (NGGS). This action is based on the agency's determination that the IGMS/NGGS is no longer used as a system of records under the Privacy Act of 1974, as records are not retrieved by personal identifiers. The EPA ceased maintaining this system in July 2024.
This is a procedural notice concerning the management of agency records. While the comment period closes on April 22, 2026, the actual rescission is a consequence of the system no longer being actively used for record retrieval by personal identifiers. Compliance officers should note this administrative change and ensure internal documentation reflects the rescinded system, though no immediate action is required from regulated entities as this pertains to EPA's internal record-keeping practices.
