NRC Resource Plan for FY 2026-2028 Licensing and Oversight
Summary
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2026-02, detailing its resource and budget allocation process for licensing and oversight activities for fiscal years 2026-2028. The notice aims to inform stakeholders about the NRC's review scheduling process and encourage preapplication engagements.
What changed
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has issued Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2026-02, which outlines the agency's process for scheduling and allocating resources for fiscal years 2026 through 2028. This summary covers the review of new licensing applications and oversight of construction for various types of reactors, including large light water reactors (LWRs), small modular reactors (SMRs), and non-LWRs, as well as other regulatory and preapplication activities.
This document serves to communicate the NRC's internal planning process to stakeholders and to encourage early engagement with the agency regarding future projects. While it does not impose new direct obligations, it provides transparency into the NRC's resource planning for future licensing and oversight activities, which may inform industry participants' own project timelines and engagement strategies.
