About this source

The Kentucky Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned utilities and rural electric cooperatives in Kentucky: electricity, natural gas, water, wastewater, and select telephone services. Orders publish as the commission acts on rate cases, complaints, construction certificate applications, and tariff amendments. Around 125 orders a month. Kentucky is a traditionally regulated state (no retail choice), so the PSC's rate-case decisions directly set what customers pay for utility service. Watch this if you advise utility clients in Kentucky, follow Duke Energy Kentucky or Kentucky Power regulatory activity, intervene in rate cases, or track rural electric cooperative regulatory matters.

What changed

The Kentucky Public Service Commission issued an order granting Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation's motion to amend the procedural schedule in Case No. 2026-00033. The amendment extends two deadlines: initial requests for information to Jackson Purchase Energy are now due by May 1, 2026, and Jackson Purchase Energy's responses are now due by May 11, 2026. The order was entered on April 24, 2026.

The primary impact is procedural: parties to this rate case proceeding (Case No. 2026-00033) must adjust their workflow timelines accordingly. Jackson Purchase Energy must ensure responses are filed by May 11. Other parties and intervenors should note the May 21 deadline for requesting a public hearing or requesting the matter be decided on the written record. No substantive regulatory obligations or compliance requirements are created by this scheduling order.

COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION In the Matter of:

O R D E R On April 8, 2026, Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation (Jackson Purchase Energy) filed a motion seeking to amend the Commission's procedural schedule that was issued on April 8, 2026. In support of Jackson Purchase Energy's request, it stated that its sole witness, Meredith Kendall, who is the chief financial officer and vice-president of finance and accounting, had a previously scheduled obligation outside of the United States until April 30, 2026. Jackson Purchase Energy requested that the Commission amend the procedural schedule in two ways. First, that the initial request for information be issued to Jackson Purchase Energy no later than May 1, 2026, instead of April 24, 2026, as originally ordered; and secondly, that Jackson Purchase Energy's responses be due no later than May 11, 2026, instead of May 1, 2026, as originally ordered. Based on the foregoing, the Commission finds that Jackson Purchase Energy's motion should be granted and that the procedural schedule issued on April 8, 2026, should be amended. The procedural schedule should be amended to require initial requests for information to Jackson Purchase Energy be issued no later than May 1, 2026,
