Notice of Closed Defense Production Act Meetings on Nuclear Fuel Voluntary Agreements
Summary
The Department of Energy announces that a series of closed meetings were held in March 2026 pursuant to section 708 of the Defense Production Act to discuss implementation of Voluntary Agreements and Plans of Action with nuclear fuel industry entities. Meetings covered reactors, recycling and reprocessing, mining and milling, utilities, fabrication and deconversion, enrichment, and conversion sectors. The meetings were closed to the public because they were likely to disclose trade secrets and privileged commercial or financial information.
What changed
The DOE held seven closed working group meetings and one hybrid DPA Steering Committee meeting between March 3-31, 2026, to discuss implementation of Voluntary Agreements under the Defense Production Act with entities across the nuclear fuel supply chain. The meetings addressed reactors, recycling/reprocessing, mining/milling, utilities, fabrication/deconversion, enrichment, and conversion. All sessions were closed because DOE determined they would disclose trade secrets and privileged commercial or financial information under 5 U.S.C. 552b(c).
Affected nuclear fuel industry participants—including uranium miners, fuel fabricators, enrichers, utilities, and reprocessors—should monitor for any subsequent public announcements or proposed Plans of Action resulting from these discussions. While the meetings themselves remain confidential, the DOE's engagement signals ongoing attention to nuclear fuel supply chain resilience under DPA authority.
