DOE Seeks Comment on BPA Security Information Collection Extension
Summary
The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking public comment on a three-year extension of its BPA Security information collection request, OMB Control Number 1910-5188. This collection is used to manage access to BPA facilities and report security incidents. Comments are due by April 20, 2026.
What changed
The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a notice requesting public comment on an extension of the "BPA Security" information collection, identified by OMB Control Number 1910-5188. This collection is used by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) to manage personnel and physical security programs, including determining access to BPA facilities and reporting incidents of damage or loss. The DOE is seeking a three-year extension of this collection, which involves an estimated 7,491 respondents submitting 8,508 responses annually, totaling 1,522 burden hours. The notice details various BPA forms related to access requests, incident reporting, and identity verification.
Compliance officers should review the proposed information collection and consider submitting comments by the deadline of April 20, 2026. Comments should address the necessity, utility, accuracy of burden estimates, and potential improvements for the collection. While this is a consultation and not a final rule, failure to provide timely comments could result in the extension being approved without addressing potential concerns regarding the burden or utility of the information collected. The specific forms and procedures outlined are critical for entities interacting with BPA facilities.
What to do next
- Review the BPA Security information collection request for necessity, utility, and burden.
- Submit comments on the proposed extension by April 20, 2026.
