Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalist Mohammed Washah in Gaza, Palestine on 8 April 2026.

Journalists play a crucial role in informing the world and ensuring the local population’s right to information. I call for the respect of UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict, a status reaffirmed in the Pact for the Future.
