Nevada Department of Education Seeks Public Comment on IDEA Application

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Education will open a public comment period in April on its annual state application under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The application for federal fiscal year 2026 – which coincides with state fiscal year 2027 – is now available to view and copies have been disseminated throughout Nevada.

“The Nevada Department of Education is committed to seeking the resources necessary to meet the needs of our students,” said Dr. Victor Wakefield, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We welcome feedback on our annual IDEA state application to ensure that it best reflects how to support Nevada’s students, families, and communities.”

The IDEA application is available for review at the Nevada Department of Education’s Carson City office (700 E. Fifth St.) and Las Vegas office (2080 E. Flamingo Road, Ste. 210).

To obtain a copy of the document, please call the Office of Comprehensive Student Services at 775-687- 9147 or visit the Nevada Department of Education’s Fiscal Management webpage.

Under federal law, the document must be circulated throughout the state for 60 days prior to final submission to the U.S. Department of Education.

Within the 60-day circulation period, federal law also requires that the state establish a 30-day period to accept written public comments.

Written comments will be accepted from April 1-30. Comments may be submitted electronically on the Nevada Department of Education’s
Public Comment for Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Federal Fiscal Year 2026 (State Fiscal Year 2027) website.
