Nebraska Educators Rising Recognizes State Leaders and Award Winners

More than 400 aspiring educators, teacher leaders, and guests representing 29 chapters across the state gathered at the Younes South Conference Center from February 23-24 for the 2026 Nebraska Educators Rising State Leadership Conference. Guided by this year’s theme, Beyond the Horizon, the conference offered students a dynamic and immersive experience designed to broaden their understanding of the education profession and inspire their future pathways.

On Monday, February 23, members and teacher leaders gathered for the Opening General Session Luncheon. This signature event featured Chapter and Member Awards, Education & Training Challenge Test recognition, and the Class of 2026 Senior Signing Event, where more than 70 future educators formally committed to careers in education. The session also included an inspiring keynote address from 2026 Nebraska Teacher of the Year, Sarah Hardin, who encouraged students think “beyond the horizon” as they prepare to shape tomorrow’s classrooms. The session was led by the 2025-26 Nebraska Educators Rising State Officer Team: President: Karli Knaub, Scottsbluff; Vice President of Development: Grace Johnson, Ralston; Vice President of Membership: Camila Martinez, Omaha South; Vice President of Public Relations: Khadijah Brooks, Papillion La Vista South.

Following the luncheon, members transitioned into a full afternoon of Youth Breakout Sessions, Competitive Events, and experiential learning opportunities. Breakout sessions offered students a wide range of topics aligned to both foundational teaching skills and emerging trends within education. At the same time, competitive events allowed students to demonstrate knowledge and creativity in categories ranging from children’s literature to ethical dilemma analysis to lesson planning and delivery.

Monday also featured several signature conference components, including the KCLC Service Project, where members engaged with local after‑school programs; the LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl pool play, where teams competed head‑to‑head; and the State Officer Candidate Speeches and Business Session, where delegates heard from candidates seeking leadership roles on the 2026-27 State Officer team.

Tuesday kicked off with announcements & youth networking, giving students a chance to energize and reconnect before a packed day. Competitive Events continued throughout the morning and early afternoon alongside multiple expanded opportunities, including the UNK College of Education Blue & Gold Visit and the Spotlight on Projects showcase – both new additions for 2026. Students also participated in morning and early afternoon Youth Breakout Sessions and engaged with colleges, educator‑prep programs, and community partners during the Opportunity Fair. The LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl Finals took place during lunch, culminating in an exciting conclusion to the competition. The afternoon continued with the UNK Campus Tour and the Career Collective Social, where students connected directly with school district representatives and education leaders from across Nebraska. These conversations helped students explore future employment pathways and gain insight into the landscape of Nebraska’s educator pipeline.

The conference concluded with the Grand Awards Session, recognizing outstanding administrators, teacher leaders, alumni, and student members. The session also honored the 2025-26 State Officer team, introduced the 2026-27 State Officers, and celebrated winners in each competitive event category, including students who qualified for national competition this summer.
