Summary

The Department of the Air Force is seeking public comment on a proposed information collection, an Air Force Junior ROTC Principal Survey. The comment period closed on March 2, 2026. This collection aims to evaluate program effectiveness and ensure quality assurance standards.

What changed

The Department of the Air Force, through the Jeanne M. Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Citizen Development, issued a 60-day notice for public comment on a proposed information collection: the Air Force Junior ROTC Principal Survey. This survey, associated with OMB Control Number 0701-AFPS, is intended to gather feedback from high school principals hosting AFJROTC programs to evaluate program effectiveness, meet accrediting body standards (Cognia), and identify areas for improvement. The estimated annual burden is 64 hours for 255 respondents.

While this notice itself does not impose new obligations, it represents a step in the information collection clearance process under the Paperwork Reduction Act. The comment period closed on March 2, 2026. Regulated entities, specifically high school principals involved with AFJROTC, were invited to provide feedback on the necessity, accuracy, utility, and clarity of the proposed collection, as well as methods to minimize respondent burden. No penalties are associated with this consultation notice; however, feedback is crucial for the continued operation and improvement of the AFJROTC program.
