What changed

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced the winners of its 2025 Global Awards, recognizing ten Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and startups for their innovative use of intellectual property (IP). The selected companies, spanning sectors such as health, environment, agri-food, creative industries, and ICT, were chosen from over 780 applicants across 95 countries. Notable winners include Hummingbird Bio for antibody therapeutics, Glovatrix for sign-to-speech gloves, and Carbfix for CO₂ mineral storage. The awards ceremony took place on July 11, 2025, at WIPO headquarters in Geneva.

Winning entities receive tailored mentoring for IP commercialization, global visibility through WIPO platforms, long-term access to IP advisory services, and sponsorship to attend the awards ceremony. The program aims to support entrepreneurs in leveraging IP to strengthen their strategies, attract investment, and access new markets. While this announcement celebrates achievements, it does not impose new compliance obligations on regulated entities. However, it highlights best practices in IP utilization for business growth and societal impact.
