Email

Summary

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) is seeking public comments on its intention to renew an information collection regarding the transfer of ownership, registry, flag, charter, lease, or mortgage of U.S. citizen-owned documented vessels. This collection helps MARAD determine if vessels must be retained under U.S. flag regulations.

What changed

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has published a notice seeking public comments on the renewal of an information collection (OMB Control Number 2133-0006). This collection is used to gather information necessary for MARAD to approve the sale, transfer, charter, lease, or mortgage of U.S. documented vessels to non-citizens or to foreign registry and flag. The purpose is to ensure compliance with U.S. flag statutory regulations.

Interested parties, primarily vessel owners applying for foreign transfer of U.S. flag vessels, are invited to submit written comments within 30 days of the notice's publication. The agency estimates 85 respondents will each require approximately 2 hours per response annually, totaling 170 burden hours. This is a renewal without change of a currently approved collection.
