CCS Clears GlobalFoundries Acquisition of Advanced Micro Foundry
Summary
The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCS) has cleared the completed acquisition of Advanced Micro Foundry Pte. Ltd. (AMF) by GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore Pte. Ltd., finding no substantial lessening of competition in the market for foundry services for pluggable transceivers in Singapore. CCS assessed that the parties are not the closest competitors, several viable alternative suppliers exist, and the combined market share remains low.
What changed
CCS has cleared the completed acquisition of Advanced Micro Foundry Pte. Ltd. by GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore Pte. Ltd., determining that the transaction does not substantially lessen competition in the supply of foundry services for pluggable transceivers in Singapore. The clearance follows assessment of the parties' submissions and third-party feedback, with CCS concluding that competitive conditions will remain intact due to the parties not being each other's closest competitors, availability of alternative suppliers, and low combined market share.
For companies operating in or considering transactions within Singapore's semiconductor foundry sector, this clearance indicates that merger control reviews will focus on competitive dynamics and market positioning rather than imposing restrictions. The parties involved should continue monitoring for any further CCS correspondence regarding the registered transaction.
