Summary

The ACCC has issued a mandatory recall for remote control units (model AC136-05Bi-CA) used with Nordic series motorised window awnings, sold nationally in Australia between 1 February and 17 April 2026. The remotes contain an unsecured button battery that may be released during use, and the packaging lacks required warnings about the dangers of button batteries to children. Suppliers must collect affected remotes and provide free replacements to consumers who should stop using the products immediately.

“Children are at risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries, or death if they swallow or place button/coin batteries inside their bodies.”

About this source

GovPing monitors Australia ACCC Product Safety Recalls for new consumer protection regulatory changes. Every update since tracking began is archived, classified, and available as free RSS or email alerts — 6 changes logged to date.

What changed

The recall was triggered by non-compliance with mandatory standards for products containing button batteries. The button battery compartment is not secured, allowing the battery to be released during normal use. Additionally, the packaging fails to display required warnings about the dangers of button/coin batteries to children and first-aid instructions.

Consumers who purchased these remotes from retailers including Needlecraft Curtains & Blinds, Victory Curtains & Blinds, ABC Blinds & Awnings, and five other dealers must stop use immediately and contact the supplier for free collection and replacement. Dealers are obligated to arrange premises visits to retrieve affected units at no cost to consumers. The recall was published on 24 April 2026 with PRA number 2026/20895.

What to do next

  1. Stop using the remote immediately and keep out of reach of children.
  2. The dealer from which the remote was purchased will arrange to attend your premises to collect the remote and provide a replacement to you at no cost.
