Payment Routing Optimization Method Using API Messages
Summary
The USPTO published patent application US20260099829A1 for a computer-implemented method of optimized payment routing using API messages. The method receives transaction requests from enrolled users containing transaction information, source and destination identifiers, accesses a collection of enrolled payment routes combining various payment rails and providers, selects an optimized route based on specific transaction requirements, and submits routing requests to execute transactions. Inventors are Derek John Zumsteg and Shamir Karkal. Filing date was October 6, 2025.
What changed
The USPTO published patent application US20260099829A1 for a computer-implemented method of optimized payment routing. The method processes API messages from enrolled users containing transaction requests for fund transfers, accessing a collection of enrolled payment routes combining payment rails and providers to create multiple routing options. The system selects an optimized payment route based on specific transaction requirements and submits routing requests to execute transactions using the selected route.
For affected parties, this patent application describes a software-based method for dynamic payment routing optimization that could be relevant to financial services, fintech companies, and payment processors. The published application does not create immediate compliance obligations but provides visibility into the technical approach being pursued for payment routing optimization using API messages and multiple payment networks.

Abstract
A computer-implemented method for optimized payment routing includes receiving API messages from a plurality of enrolled users, where each API message contains a transaction request for transferring funds. The transaction request includes transaction information specifying a value of funds to be transferred, a source identifier, and a destination identifier. The method processes the API messages by accessing a collection of enrolled payment routes, where each payment route comprises a different combination of payment rails and payment providers for transferring funds. At least one payment rail is combined with different respective payment providers to create multiple routing options. The method selects an optimized payment route from the plurality of available payment routes based on the specific transaction requirements and submits a routing request to execute the transaction using the selected payment route in accordance with the transaction information. This approach enables dynamic optimization of payment routing by providing access to multiple payment networks and providers through a single interface.
