YEREVAN, ARMENIA (23 April 2026) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Lyaziza Sabyrova as its new Country Director for Armenia, effective 1 April 2026.

Ms. Sabyrova will lead ADB’s operations in Armenia, oversee the implementation of the bank’s operational approach, strengthen client relationships, and manage a cross-functional resident mission. She will also play a key role in advancing ADB’s strategic priorities in the country, including infrastructure development, private sector-led growth, human development, and climate and disaster resilience.

“I am honored to take on this role and further strengthen ADB’s partnership with Armenia,” said Ms. Sabyrova. “Building on our strong foundation, we will continue working closely with the government and partners to support sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development.”

Ms. Sabyrova brings more than 30 years of professional experience, including over two decades with ADB. She joined ADB in 2000 as an economist in the former Water Supply, Urban Development and Housing Division, and has since held progressively senior roles across operations departments. She served as senior country economist in the Kyrgyz Republic Resident Mission and later as principal regional economist for Central and West Asia.

Most recently, Ms. Sabyrova served as Director and then Regional Head of the Regional Cooperation and Integration Division of ADB’s Central and West Asia operations, where she led major accomplishments, including the implementation of country partnership strategies and the strengthening of regional cooperation.

Prior to joining ADB, Ms. Sabyrova was an associate instructor in the Department of Economics at Indiana University in the United States, where she earned both her master’s and doctorate degrees in economics.
