Summary

The Federal Reserve published a notice of proposals by bank holding companies and other entities to engage in or acquire companies engaged in permissible nonbanking activities. The notice announces these proposals for public review as part of the Federal Reserve's supervisory process. No specific proposals, entities, or timelines are detailed in this one-page notice.

What changed

The Federal Reserve System published a notice announcing proposals from bank holding companies and other entities seeking to engage in or acquire companies engaged in permissible nonbanking activities. This notice is part of the Federal Reserve's ongoing supervisory and regulatory review process for nonbanking activities under the Bank Holding Company Act.\n\nBank holding companies and their legal and compliance teams should monitor for subsequent Federal Reserve notices identifying specific proposals, as these may include opportunities for public comment or raise competitive concerns in affected nonbanking sectors. The proposals subject to this notice relate to activities already deemed permissible for bank holding companies under existing regulations.

What to do next

  1. Monitor Federal Reserve notices for specific nonbanking activity proposals
  2. Review comment procedures when individual proposals are published
  3. Assess potential competitive implications for nonbanking sector entries
