Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Non-CO2 Programme Funding
Summary
The Department for Business and Trade has launched the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Non-CO2 Programme, offering grant funding for research and technology development in the UK's civil aerospace sector. The programme aims to maintain and grow the UK's competitive position by focusing on non-CO2 emissions reduction technologies.
What changed
The Department for Business and Trade, in partnership with the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and Innovate UK, has announced the ATI Non-CO2 Programme, a funding initiative for UK-registered businesses involved in aerospace research and technology development. The programme specifically targets projects aligned with the UK's "Destination Zero" aerospace technology strategy, focusing on non-CO2 emissions challenges. Eligible projects must be carried out in the UK, with an intention to exploit the results within the UK. The application process involves a two-stage competition: an outline stage followed by a full stage application.
Organisations interested in applying must meet specific criteria, including addressing challenges outlined in the ATI's non-CO2 technologies roadmap and signing up to the ATI framework agreement. Early engagement with the ATI is recommended for capital infrastructure project applications. While partners can be non-UK entities, their costs will not count towards eligible project costs. The funding is available as a grant, with applications assessed individually by ATI's partner organisations. Further details on funding rules can be found on Innovate UK's website.
What to do next
- Review ATI Non-CO2 Programme eligibility criteria and technology strategy requirements.
- Contact the ATI for early engagement if considering a capital infrastructure project application.
- Prepare and submit a two-stage application (outline and full stage) if pursuing funding.

Who it’s for
To lead an industrial research and technology project, your organisation must:
- be a UK-registered business of any size for research projects
- carry out your aerospace research project work in the UK
- intend to exploit the results from or in the UK
- address the challenges outlined in UK’s aerospace technology strategy – Destination Zero, that must include specific requirements set out in the ATI ’s non-CO2 technologies roadmap
- sign up to the ATI framework agreement
- claim funding
- speak to the ATI before submitting a capital infrastructure project application as early engagement is likely to help develop a proposal suitable for the programme Your business does not have to be registered with Companies House when you apply, but it must be registered before you can receive funding.
Your project can include partners that do not receive any of this competition’s funding, for example, non-UK businesses. Their costs will not count towards the total eligible project costs but must be included in your application.
More information on the different types of organisations can be found on Innovate UK’s (IUK) website under funding rules. We accept single applicant-led projects, though encourage collaborative project applications.
