Summary

The FCA has released its mortgage lending statistics for March 2026, based on data submitted via the Mortgage Lending and Administration Return (MLAR). The report details trends in outstanding mortgage loans, gross mortgage advances, and new mortgage commitments for Q4 2025.

What changed

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published its latest mortgage lending statistics for March 2026, covering data from Q4 2025. The report, compiled from the Mortgage Lending and Administration Return (MLAR) submitted by regulated firms, indicates a 0.8% increase in outstanding residential mortgage loans to £1,734.4 billion, and a 1.3% decrease in gross mortgage advances to £79.4 billion compared to the previous quarter. New mortgage commitments also saw a decrease of 11.9%.

These statistics are collected quarterly from approximately 340 regulated mortgage lenders and administrators. While this publication is primarily for informational purposes, firms should be aware of the reported market trends. The FCA and PRA jointly regulate these entities, and this data publication is a joint effort. The next edition is scheduled for June 9, 2026.

The FCA and the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) both have responsibility for the regulation of mortgage lenders and administrators so this data publication is joint. We publish this data every quarter.
