Prudential Authority Circular C1-2026: Status of Bank Circulars
Summary
The Prudential Authority (PA) has issued Circular C1-2026 to confirm the status of previously issued bank circulars. This annual confirmation aims to ensure clarity for regulated entities regarding which circulars remain effective.
What changed
Circular C1-2026, issued by the Prudential Authority (PA) of the South African Reserve Bank, serves to annually confirm the status of previously issued bank circulars. This notice is intended to provide clarity to banks, controlling companies, eligible institutions, and their auditors regarding which circulars remain in effect. It clarifies that directives issued under section 6(6) of the Banks Act remain effective until formally withdrawn.
While this circular itself is a routine administrative confirmation, regulated entities should ensure they are aware of the current status of all applicable circulars. The PA will continue this annual confirmation process. No immediate action is required by addressees beyond maintaining awareness of the effective circulars. The document does not specify any penalties for non-compliance with the status confirmation itself, as it is an informational notice.
What to do next
- Review Circular C1-2026 to confirm understanding of the PA's annual circular status confirmation process.
- Ensure internal records reflect the current status of all applicable bank circulars.
