Federal Student Aid Updates SAIG Message Class File
Summary
Federal Student Aid has updated the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) message class file by adding new message classes for the FAFSA Processing System. This update is automatically applied to EDconnect transmission software when users connect to the SAIG network.
What changed
Federal Student Aid (FSA) has announced an update to its Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) message class file, specifically adding the "MESSAGTB" class. This update introduces new message classes for the FAFSA Processing System into the EDconnect message class table. The update is delivered automatically to users when they connect to the SAIG network, with the EDconnect software requesting, downloading, and importing the new file transparently, except for an import dialog box.
Educational institutions utilizing EDconnect for FAFSA processing should ensure their systems connect to the SAIG network to receive the update. For networked installations, the update applies to the central database, while stand-alone PCs will update individually upon initiating a transmission. No specific compliance deadline is mentioned, as the update is automated. Contact the FPS Help Desk for any questions regarding the update or its implementation.
What to do next
- Ensure EDconnect systems connect to the SAIG network to receive the automated update of the message class table.

Posted Date March 13, 2026 Author Federal Student Aid Electronic Announcement ID GENERAL-26-16 Subject SAIG Message Class File Update
On March 13, 2026, we sent the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software automatically requests, downloads, and imports this new message class table when the user connects to the SAIG network. After the software imports the MESSAGTB file, it uses the new message class table from that point forward.
Note: The new MESSAGTB file is delivered to the SAIG mailbox. FTI-SAIG mailbox users need to connect to SAIG to receive the new file.

We are adding new message classes for the FAFSA Processing System to the EDconnect message class table.
Update, Import, and Installation Information
The message class table update is transparent to users except for an Import dialog box, which appears on a user’s screen and displays the progress of the import.
The new message class table file is also available in the Software and Other Tools area of the Knowledge Center website.
Using Multiple Networked PCs – If a user has a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table imports into the EDconnect database on the user’s network drive. After the import, individual workstations have access to the new message class table.
Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs – The message class table automatically downloads and updates EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
