State AGs Continue Live Nation Antitrust Case
Summary
A coalition of State Attorneys General, led by Colorado AG Phil Weiser, has announced their intention to continue pursuing their antitrust case against Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The states believe the recent settlement with the Department of Justice does not adequately address the harms caused by Live Nation's alleged monopolization of the live music industry.
What changed
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has stated his commitment to continuing the antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster. This action follows a May 2024 lawsuit filed by a bipartisan group of state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Justice, alleging Live Nation illegally monopolized the live entertainment and concert ticketing markets. AG Weiser expressed concern that the recent settlement between the DOJ and Live Nation does not sufficiently remedy the harms to consumers and the market, and he is also critical of potential improper lobbying influencing the settlement.
This statement indicates that at least some states intend to litigate the case independently of the federal government to seek more robust relief. Companies operating in the live music and ticketing sectors should monitor the progress of this ongoing litigation, as the outcome could significantly impact market competition, pricing, and business practices. While no specific compliance deadline is mentioned, the continuation of the case suggests potential future regulatory scrutiny or changes to market structure.
What to do next
- Monitor ongoing litigation between State AGs and Live Nation.
- Assess potential impacts of continued antitrust scrutiny on business practices and market competition.

Attorney General Weiser vows to continue case against Live Nation for illegally monopolizing live music industry
March 9, 2026 (DENVER) – Attorney General Phil Weiser released the following statement regarding the ongoing antitrust case against Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, for illegally monopolizing the live entertainment industry and concert ticketing services:
“In May 2024, a bipartisan group of state attorneys general joined the U.S. Department of Justice to sue Live Nation for monopolizing the market for ticketing and using its monopoly power in the concert venue market to reinforce and protect that monopoly. For too long, Live Nation has raked in billions from a monopoly that has made it harder for consumers to see the artists they love, stifled artists, and increased the price of tickets for countless music fans.
“The case against Live Nation is strong, and Colorado is committed to holding the company accountable for its illegal behavior, protecting consumers, and restoring competition to this market. The settlement recently announced by the Justice Department and Live Nation does not adequately remedy the harms to the marketplace for live music and to concertgoers caused by Live Nation. Moreover, I am particularly concerned about reports suggesting that the settlement, like other recent Justice Department settlements, was reached through improper lobbying and pay-for-play politics that should have no role in antitrust enforcement.
“Colorado is willing and able to stand with other states to continue litigating this case without the federal government so that we can hold Live Nation accountable in court and secure appropriate relief in this case.”
