Florida Executive Order Extends State of Emergency for Tornadoes
Summary
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has issued Executive Order 26-57, extending the state of emergency declared for Holmes County due to tornadoes by an additional sixty (60) days. This extension continues support for recovery efforts following the May 2025 severe weather events.
What changed
Executive Order 26-57, issued by the Governor of Florida on March 6, 2026, renews and extends the state of emergency declared under Executive Order 25-101 for Holmes County for an additional sixty (60) days. This action is taken due to the ongoing recovery from severe weather and tornadoes that occurred in May 2025, necessitating continued state support for affected areas and individuals. The order reaffirms Executive Order 25-101 and takes immediate effect.
This extension means that emergency management provisions and state support mechanisms related to the May 2025 tornado disaster in Holmes County will remain active for an additional 60-day period beyond the original expiration date. Government agencies and public health authorities involved in disaster relief and recovery efforts should continue to operate under the extended emergency declaration. While no specific compliance actions are mandated for regulated entities by this order, it signifies the continued need for state-level coordination and resource allocation for disaster recovery.
