Summary

Governor DeSantis has extended Executive Order 26-51, continuing the assignment of State Attorney William M. Gladson for charges pending against DeMorris Hunter. The extension is for one year, through April 3, 2027, as the case remains ongoing.

What changed

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has issued Executive Order 26-51, extending the assignment of State Attorney William M. Gladson. This order reaffirms and extends the previous executive assignment, originally established by Executive Order 17-77 and subsequently extended multiple times, to represent the State of Florida concerning charges pending against DeMorris Hunter. The extension is granted for an additional year, concluding on April 3, 2027, as the State Attorney has indicated that the duties of the assignment are not yet complete due to the ongoing nature of the case.

This extension requires no immediate action from regulated entities. However, the Assigned State Attorney must notify the Governor by March 3, 2027, if further time is needed to complete the assigned duties. This action pertains to the continuation of specific legal proceedings within the state's judicial system and does not impose new obligations on businesses or the general public.

What to do next

  1. Monitor case progress related to DeMorris Hunter
  2. Note the extended assignment deadline of April 3, 2027
  3. Ensure notification is provided by March 3, 2027, if additional time is required by the Assigned State Attorney
