Summary

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 26-55, extending the assignment of a State Attorney for one year, until December 14, 2026, to continue representing the State in charges pending against Kenneth Robert Kelly. This order reaffirms previous assignments and ensures the case can be completed.

What changed

Executive Order 26-55, issued by the Governor of Florida on March 2, 2026, extends the executive assignment of a State Attorney for an additional year, through December 14, 2026. This extension is necessary because the case involving charges against Kenneth Robert Kelly, which the State Attorney was previously assigned to handle under Executive Orders 22-272, 23-235, and 25-64, remains pending and the assigned duties are not yet completed.

The practical implication is that the assigned State Attorney will continue to represent the State in this specific criminal matter. The order requires the Assigned State Attorney to notify the Governor by November 14, 2026, if further time is needed. This action ensures continuity in the legal proceedings for the specified case.

What to do next

  1. Monitor case progress related to Kenneth Robert Kelly
  2. Note the extended assignment deadline of December 14, 2026
  3. Ensure notification is provided by November 14, 2026, if additional time is required
