Summary

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 26-30, extending the assignment of State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden for one year until December 17, 2026. This extension is necessary to complete duties related to an ongoing case involving Sonya Faye Lowe.

What changed

Executive Order 26-30, issued by the Governor of Florida on February 2, 2026, extends the executive assignment of State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden for an additional year, through December 17, 2026. This extension, originally established by Executive Order 24-278, is required because the assigned duties concerning allegations against Sonya Faye Lowe are not yet completed due to the pending status of the case.

The State Attorney is required to notify the Governor by November 17, 2026, if further time is needed. This action reaffirms the previous assignment and ensures the continuation of legal duties in the best interest of the state and the administration of justice. No new obligations are imposed on external entities, but the assignment itself is formally continued.

What to do next

  1. Monitor the status of Executive Order 24-278 and its extension under EO 26-30.
  2. Note the updated assignment end date of December 17, 2026.
  3. Be aware of the notification requirement by November 17, 2026, if additional time is needed.
