This document is a "Week in Review" notice from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) summarizing the activities of its Forest Rangers throughout 2025. It details the total number of search and rescue missions (362), wildfires extinguished (202 covering 840 acres), prescribed fires conducted (68 rejuvenating 1,649 acres), and law enforcement actions resulting in over 1,100 tickets and arrests. The notice provides specific examples of recent ranger actions, including a wilderness search and rescue, responses to stranded vehicles on unplowed trails, a snowmobile accident, and training exercises. While this document primarily serves as an informational update on the agency's operations and does not introduce new regulations or compliance requirements, it underscores the broad scope of responsibilities undertaken by Forest Rangers, including law enforcement, emergency response, and environmental management. Regulated entities operating within or interacting with New York State lands should be aware of the active presence and diverse operational capabilities of these rangers.

“Our Forest Rangers are elite law enforcement leaders who put their lives on the line when they respond to a search and rescue, wildland fire, or State land violation,” DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton said. “We’re fortunate to have them patrolling State lands and keeping people safe.
