PUCT Approves Sale of Water Utilities to SP Utility Company

T ex as.Gov PUCT Pr ot ects Consumer s by Approving Sale and T r ansfer of W at e r Utilities in Harris and Chamber s Coun tie s AUSTIN, Tex as – The Public Utili ty Commis sion of Texas (P UCT) tod ay approved t he sale and transfer of three wa ter syste ms – Vista U tiliti es, V illa Utilities, and R eed Estates – to SP Utility Company, ensu ring the utilitie s’ 85 custome rs will receive s afe, continuous, and affordable water servic e. The Commission previo usly appointed a te mporary manager fo r the th ree water sys tems after it was found the owner had abandone d operations. The te mporary manager, wi th the Commission’s support, c oordinated emergency responses to multiple water well failures and helped establi sh a sec ure and consis tent supply of safe w ater for the resident s of t hese syste ms. Today's approval of the s ale and transf er terminate s that tempora ry manager ap pointment. SP Util ity is now the c ertificated water utili ty for the th ree systems and will be requir ed to provide continuous and adequate water s ervice to current and future c ustomers in these areas. SP Util ity curren tly ow ns, operates, and control s facilities that provide water service in Harris, Brazoria, For t Bend, Montgomery, and Chambers Coun ties. SP Uti lity has the financial, managerial, a nd technical c apability to serve the area and d oes not hav e a history of continuing mismanagement o r misuse of revenue as a utility provider.
