DFARS Information Collection Requirements for Private Security Contractors
Summary
The Defense Acquisition Regulations System has submitted a revision to an existing information collection requirement for contractors performing private security functions outside the United States to the Office of Management and Budget for clearance. The notice seeks public comment on the proposed changes.
What changed
The Defense Acquisition Regulations System (DARS) has submitted a revision to OMB Control Number 0704-0549, concerning information collection requirements for contractors performing private security functions outside the United States, as detailed in DFARS Part 225. This is a revision of a currently approved collection, impacting approximately 10 business entities with an estimated annual burden of 20 hours. The information collection is necessary to ensure contractors report specific security incidents, such as weapon discharges, attacks, or property destruction, to geographic combatant commanders.
Regulated entities, specifically businesses performing private security functions outside the US, should review the proposed information collection and submit comments to the Federal eRulemaking Portal or reginfo.gov by February 4, 2026. While this is a notice for public comment on an information collection, the underlying DFARS clause requires contractors to report incidents to combatant commanders when they occur in designated operational areas. Failure to comply with reporting requirements could have implications for contract performance and future contracting opportunities.
What to do next
- Review the proposed information collection revision for OMB Control Number 0704-0549.
- Submit comments to the Federal eRulemaking Portal or reginfo.gov by February 4, 2026.
