Summary

The Department of the Navy has published a notice to cancel its Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for improving homeport facilities for three NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers. This action effectively removes the need for further environmental review related to this specific project.

What changed

The Department of the Navy, through a notice published in the Federal Register, has announced the cancellation of its intent to prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) concerning improvements to homeport facilities for three NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers. The Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare the SEIS is officially cancelled as of February 13, 2026. This action signifies that the Navy will not proceed with the detailed environmental review previously planned for this specific homeport improvement project.

This cancellation means that the environmental review process for this particular project is being halted. Regulated entities or interested parties who were anticipating or involved in the SEIS process should be aware that this specific environmental impact assessment will not be completed. No immediate compliance actions are required for external parties as a result of this cancellation, but it may affect future planning or operations related to the affected naval facilities. The cancellation itself is a procedural step and does not impose new obligations or penalties.
